Cartridge Care Tips

To install your cartridge remove clip or cap from base of ink cartridge (if applicable).

Insert cartridge into printer; ensure cartridge firmly locks into place.

Press OK, yes, close, etc. to bypass any nuisance messages that appear.
NOTE: Members may experience “alerts” when using refilled cartridges. These nuisance messages are simply deterrents created by manufacturers and should be bypassed by pressing “OK”, “proceed”, “continue”, “accept”, etc. Stop the process if an “Unrecognized Cartridge”, “Cartridge Error”, “Incompatible Cartridge” or “Replace Cartridge” message appears (return the cartridge to the Costco Photo Centre for evaluation). See table below.

HP 363 YES. If "Cartridge Error" or "Unrecognized" alert is present then return to ink refiller for chip replacement and re-programming. For HP 363 error "Missing or Damaged" or "Expired Ink" alerts, return to ink refiller and request chip replacement. For streaking or no ink on paper, perform Nozzle/Printhead clean.
HP 21, 22, 27, 28, 56-58, 300, 301, 302, 336-339, 342-344, 348, 350, 351, 901 NO. Ink levels will be greyed out - this is NORMAL. Print until quality fades. "Cartridge Error" or "Incompatible" error messages likely due to an electrically damaged cartridge. Return to ink refiller for refund and replace with a new cartridge.
HP 364, 920, 932, 933, 934, 935, 950, 951 YES, except for an initial "Non HP Cartridge Installed" message. Activate internal test print to check colour availability. For "Missing or Damaged" or "Ink Empty" message, return to refiller and request weight check and/or chip replacement. For streaking or no ink on paper, perform Nozzle/Printhead clean. For 364/934/935 quality issues, leave cartridges in printer for 48 hours to allow ink to fully absorb into foam, then retest.
Canon 3, 5, 8, 520, 521, 525, 526 YES. If "Cartridge Error" or "Not Recognized" alert is present then return to refiller for chip reprogramming. For "Ink Out" message, return to refiller and request weight check. For streaking or no ink on paper, perform Nozzle/Printhead clean.
Canon 37, 38, 40, 41, 50, 51, 510, 511, 512, 513, 540, 541, 545, 546, 550, 551, 570, 571 NO. Ink levels will be greyed out - this is NORMAL. A printer reset will be required to enable refill cartridge usage - press and hold "Stop" or "Stop/Resume" button for 5-8 seconds (button with a red triangle-circle symbol). Following a printer reset, blinking error lights or constant black/color light error condition should cease. If blinking lights/errors continue, you may need to select ‘OK’ on the printer since ‘Windows’ error messages may pop-up between each button press. For multiple cartridges, you may need to repeat this procedure for each cartridge that is installed in the printer (i.e. 4 cartridges, press and hold ‘Stop/Resume’ button 4 times….alternating with an ‘Ok’ button presses in between). For streaking or no ink on paper, perform Nozzle/Printhead clean.
Epson 16, 18, 71, 79, 80, 89, 97-99, 128-130 YES. If "Cartridge Error" or "Relace Cartridge" alert is present then return to ink refiller for chip reprogramming. For streaking or no ink on paper, perform Nozzle/Printhead clean. NOTE: Do not remove the small black plug which was installed into cartridges top during refilling.
Brother 220 1100, 1200 YES. Will function the same as original cartridge once all cartridges have been refilled. NOTE: 1100/1200s do not have chips; reset not required for 220s. For streaking or no ink on paper, perform Nozzle/Printhead clean.
Brother 120 YES. Will function the same as original cartridge once refilled and chip has been reprogrammed. For streaking or no ink on paper, perform Nozzle/Printhead clean.
